growing up

All of the sudden, our little farmbaby is looking much more grown up!
But, we can still call her farmbaby, right?

collecting sap in her own pail
dressing herself and wanting to send a photo to "meme"
hanging out with big brother on the porch on our first warm(er) day
(...can you tell that she loves purple and has a favorite skirt?) ;)

16 February 2015

As I mentioned in my previous post, F and I took the train to Chicago to meet her new cousin!
The train ride was delayed a bit during travel, probably due to the cold (check out the way the areas between train cars looked!)
Our visit overlapped briefly with that of my parents, so Fenna got to visit with her Meme and Bapa before they headed back to Michigan.
And now we are enjoying fun times with her cousins, including lots of snuggling with a tiny newborn (*sigh*...I can't get enough of it!) :)
I guess we are missing even colder temps in Vermont, as the boys woke to -26ºF this morning.
So thankful that the timing worked that we weren't sugaring yet and could make this big trip.

these days

m's falcons

First, I'm so excited to announce the arrival of our first niece (after 6 nephews)!  My sister (who just flew with my nephew a couple weeks ago to visit) had a baby girl on Thursday night about 3.5 weeks early.  Everyone is doing really well and little Estella went home just in time to be snug at home before the snowstorm hit Chicago.

These bitter snowy days have meant a lot of time inside...
working on our bird studies
knitting, reading, rocking
and even time inside for the littlest animals in the farm.

I've also started another online college course to slowly finish up my prerequisites for becoming a lactation consultant.  Which means many more nights like this.

Hope everyone is staying warm!

rose aux joues

Adam recently asked me to knit F a bonnet and scarf combo.  I searched around ravelry a bit and ended up buying this pattern.  The star stitch is my favorite, so I couldn't resist this bonnet.
It knit up quite quickly (...I did a skinnier scarf so she wouldn't mind it tied under her chin).
She happened to be wearing her 'In Threes', which still fits well.  It's the wooly time of year again!

Joining Nicole this week.

at dusk

We are so fortunate to have our tall stand of maples on the west side of our property.
By early evening, the herb garden, swingset, blueberry bushes and firepit are in shade.
I enjoy going out to the herb garden and weeding or harvesting herbs at dusk.
Fenna helped me gather chamomile tonight.

Fenna's 1!

Our farmbaby is 1 today!
She has brought so much joy to our family and we all enjoy her smiles and snuggles.
She adores all of her brothers and is rarely alone because there is always a brother to play with!
Happy, happy birthday to Fenna!  We love you so.

She's here!  Photo #1 on Adam's old cellphone because we forgot the camera!
A little skin-to-skin in Papa's shirt.
Just a few days old.

Fenna's gifts

My baby is turning 1 tomorrow (*sniff*sniff*)

I finally finished her Maggie Rabbit and her sweater (pattern by Tonya).
We also got her a beautiful toy from Tonya's family's shop and a little basket from the co-op where I work.  Her brothers worked on a very special sign for her.
I am actually quite sad about her turning 1--I just love having a baby in the house and it's a little bittersweet for me.  It feels like the year has gone so fast.
Going to spend this day focusing on how blessed I am to mother my 4 kiddos

catching up

Well, it's been such a busy time catching up around the farm that I haven't had time to catch up on the blog!
The big boys just got back from Michigan on Monday night.  While they were gone, we got our second cut of hay in, had farmers' markets, battled some pantry pests (nothing like spending an entire day cleaning the pantry when there is hay on the ground!) and did some canning.
The day after they returned, the kids and I joined our homeschool group at Fort Ticonderoga.
I had my hesitations about going since there is so much to do here, but it was a beautiful day and we all enjoyed it!
On the way home, we got stuck in a construction zone on the top of the Crown Point Bridge...the views of the Adirondacks were amazing!

And little F is 7 months old today!

photo shoot

Adam teases these moments, calling them my "photo shoots".
But sometimes, the light is just right
and the little farmgirl looks so sweet
(and does something like finds her toes for the first time!)
and I just want to capture all the little movements, the expressions, the smiles.
