I am *finally* just rows away from finishing F's Tiny Tea Leaves Sweater. This is mostly because I used my birthday weekend away to get some knitting done...when we weren't walking the streets of Portland, enjoying some delicious food, buying lots of fun fabric, or walking the shores of Saco Bay. It was my first weekend away from all of the kids! A very special way to celebrated my 36th birthday.

Adam's mom came up to visit recently and she brought up a belated birthday party for M. A homemade cake of his choice, fun sea creature party plates and some new art supplies for him. They aren't the supplies you see him using in the linocut photos, those are my new supplies which he quickly grabbed to start a new linocut picture. He designed the tractor and did most of the carving himself. He's such a creative little guy, our M.
My mother-in-law also interviewed the kids about me as a belated Mother's Day gift. Three out of four of them said my favorite food was tofu (or a tofu related dish), the thing I'm really good at is cooking and I relax by knitting! Very sweet (but my favorite food is yogurt!) ;)

I'm so thankful I was able to travel to Michigan last week. I saw countless family members from both sides of my family because so many relatives from my dad's side came to my grandpa's visitation. The funeral service for him was so moving. Distant cousins of mine play bluegrass music and sang his favorite hymns in the most beautiful harmonies. Despite the sad circumstance, the feelings of joy and love in the reuniting as a (large!) family were so much stronger than the sadness.
At the same time that we were burying him, his tractors were arriving in Vermont. He gave Adam the two tractors that he had, which will allow us to grow our own feed for our animals because they are so much more powerful than the tractors we have. It was so bittersweet for my mum and I. We cried when we got a short video from a friend who filmed their arrival in Vermont. But we will think of him every time we use them... And I found a wonderful picture of him on one of the tractors.
My sister and I also got to spend time with my nana (who is now in alzheimer's care). We also met with a great aunt (who was married to my grandpa's brother) who was best friends with my mum's mum (who died when my mum was 7). We know so little about my Grandma Dorothy but we gathered many stories and photos about her from my Aunt Girlie. It was such a blessing.
And, of course, we got to enjoy the tulips, though we were a couple weeks early for the Tulip Time Festival. I haven't made it to Michigan in May in years, so it was wonderful to see the tulip lined streets of my hometown.
Finally, I arrived home just in time to celebrate M's 6th birthday! My friend's mum made a (M-designed) cake for him that I picked up on my way back from the airport. He was thrilled to have a family birthday party right when we got back home.
15 April 2016
It's hard to believe that it was 9 years ago that our Z-man joined our family.
It was just after noon on a snowy Sunday in April. The rest of the day was so peaceful with the midwives feeding us, my best friend playing with Kaylo and my friend (and boss at the time) bringing over homemade ice cream and champagne. The calm day of his birth is so fitting with his calm, observant personality. We value these parts of his personality so much in a family with others with more "intense" energy...(like me!) :) We love you, Z!

Our little farmgirl is three today!
We can't imagine life without her joy and spunk! We are so thankful for her.
She is my little sidekick--Oh, how I love toddlers! Her gift from my mum was little kitchen tools because she is always working with me in the kitchen. (Can you tell how much she loved them?) :)
Happy birthday, foof!

My sister ventured here from Chicago with her two little ones. We've had a fun time together, pretty much just cooking and caring for a pile of kids, but it is always more fun to do the 'regular' stuff together. ;)
We had a little birthday party for the girls, as both of their birthdays come later this month. Our mum even joined in via facetime. M designed a birthday crown for little T (my niece) who is turning 1. The boys all decorated with Auntie Em's help. It was a special night. (The photos from most of the past week are poor quality as someone had switched a camera setting).
21 October 2015
Today is my birthday. I find them more special now than I did when I was younger... my friends plan a special outing for me, a break from my routine with the kids. My mother-in-law comes to visit with dinner and dessert. And I generally don't mind getting older. :)
What seems so surreal to me is how it feels like just yesterday that I was a a child, spending all of my time with my siblings. Or a 20 year old, hosting my sister for month long visits wherever I was living. Or going on my first trip with Adam, our whirlwind trip to Martha's Vineyard. Or a new mama with my baby always in my arms. There is something bittersweet about those memories feeling so near; it makes time feel like it moves so quickly.
But I feel blessed for the fullness of my life and am looking forward to enjoying the day with family.

|His very specific request- cookie, mint, chocolate, cookie, vanilla, strawberry layered ice cream cake!|
Today we celebrate M's 5th birthday. He is our only baby who came "late" and it is the only thing he's ever been slow at. ;)
He has more confidence and energy than anyone else in our family, and his curiosity and imagination keep our home very, very interesting. It's such a joy to have him in our lives.
Happy birthday to our spunky little guy!
