It's that time of year...the busy season creeps up on us.
And, all-of-the-sudden, we are struggling to catch up.
I had good intentions of posting on the blog yesterday.  But,
we raced a storm--getting tools under cover and baby chicks rounded up.
And then, piglets. 11 of them.

I love this time of year, but not the feeling of being so behind.
Tomorrow is a new day-right? :)

In non-farm news, we welcomed this adorable guy to our family!
Welcome Hendrik and many congrats to my sister and brother-in-law!

around the farm

Do any of you miss Farmama's blog as much as I do?
One thing I miss the most are Sara's "around the farm" posts.

around our farm this week~
signage out for summer
elderberries to plant
leaves coming (soon!)
lots of "hee-ya" play (our little micah loves horses!)
 bunnies on pasture
and baby chicks

What's going on around your farm, garden or homestead?

in the hen house

Adam went out to the hen-house the other day to find something new there...
We have a guinea hen in the mix now.

We're still not quite sure where she came from...
but she seems to be fitting in well.

this moment

joining soulemama's {this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see.

03 November 2011

Late last week, our sow had piglets. We took the kids out to the barn in their pj's to see the piglets being born. One little piglet was crawling around in the hay. The 13 others were born later during the night.

The next morning, we got an early call from the post office saying our chicks had arrived. They are mostly meat birds, with one "free rare breed" (which was a Brahmas hen last time) and one aruacana (K's anxious to have colored eggs!) My parents happened to be in town for a few days and got to enjoy all the baby farm animal action.

happy pigs

Adam decided to run the pigs in the sweet corn fields this year. In the past, we've chopped the corn to store for winter. The pigs are loving rooting around and our fields are getting tilled up with pig manure and nitrogen from the corn--perfect for the pigs, perfect for the fields!
