february lady (and more)

My February Lady sweater is coming along.  I think I may be wearing it by February!  (Knit up with Peace Fleece's wild mustard in worsted).

The kids have been busy crafting with play dough.  I found these neat little play dough toys from Plan Toys for M and F's Christmas gifts from us.  So simple and fun.

And not really crafty, but I finally used the pears that I froze this summer in a smoothie and they were delicious.  An almost totally homegrown smoothie.   I decided to add coconut milk for a little extra creaminess...but other than that it was our blueberries, pears, milk, yogurt and maple syrup (oh and a bit of homemade kombucha).

venture vermont

For the past two years, we've participated in the Venture Vermont Challenge through
the Vermont State Parks.  It's a great program--you keep track of activities and outings and once you have enough points, you get free passes to Vermont State Parks for the following year.
So, with our Venture Vermont passes from last year, we've
started visiting local state parks and working towards our 250 points for next year!

The little farmgirl and I stayed inside
while the boys went skating on the frozen field with a bonfire.

A great winter afternoon!

Joining Nicole this week with more crafting for our upcoming holiday market.
The boys made many, many bookmarks again (like last year) while
M busily stamped.  (M is sporting some new pj pants that I made this week)

apple pizza

Z brought home this recipe from the elementary school (where he attends "specials" in
the afternoons) and couldn't wait to try it out!
We made a few minor adjustments (using butter instead of oil and adding oats to the top). :)

Crust:  2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup butter
5-7 Tbs cold water

Mix and pat into pizza pan.

Filling: 7 medium apples (sliced, cubed, or chopped)
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg (or a generous amount of fresh grated nutmeg)

Mix together and spread over crust.

Topping:  1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup oats

Mix until crumbly and spread on top of apples.

Bake 12-15 minutes at 400º.
