Well, the blog has been slipping through the cracks.
March was a busy sugaring month (we made 58 gallons this year, close to our goal of 60!)
Also, in March, my beloved Nana passed away.  
April flew by (though I pushed myself to learn both zippers and buttons and ended up sewing 3 dresses for the little farmgirl, 2 shirts and a dress for myself, and 2 button down boy's shirts this spring!)
 May was a fog for me...two of the kids were very sick early in the month, then I had a fever for 5 days, then I flew with the two little ones to Michigan for my Nana's memorial and returned home to welcome my parents for a visit.  
Somewhere in there, I mastered sourdough bread (finally!) and have been selling it at farmers' market.  
Last week, we bid farewell to our very first calf, Abby, who we bought when we were in college (14 years ago).  We raised her up and 2 years later, we had our very own raw milk.   She's been a great animal and we will all miss her.
The next few weeks always feels like the busiest of the whole year.  I am still trying to homeschool, the weeds are coming on strong, we are planting every day, markets are starting, and Adam is watching for a good, dry few days to make our first cut of hay.  
Once again, I'm going to try and post here.  Maybe I'll aim for a weekly post with farm updates.

After a couple months away from the blog, I'm going to try and post more regularly again.  

Life is so busy, even during the slowest months here on the farm.

We've enjoyed time in the wintry weather we've had, briefly enjoyed the natural ice rink in our field, worked on crafts of all kinds, spend hours cooking each week (I've finally figured out a sourdough rhythm that's working), try to keep up with schooling, celebrated two birthdays (F turned 4! and K turned 13!!), and tapped out and boiled three times now.  F and I visited a dear friend in Connecticut, and I took all of the kids to meet up with some of my family just this past week.  

We are hoping the warm days we've had this week will now hold off until spring so we can make some more syrup.   We aren't ready for spring yet!

It seems like December is passing by so quickly.  
We started this month with a family hike to a spot I hadn't hiked since college.  I was the only one who felt like hiking to the top, and I'm so glad I did (though I was racing the sun, but I made it back down before it was fully dark). 

The kitchen has been busy with baking Christmas cookies (and decorating them by lamplight), making our favorite family fudge recipe, ricotta making, the Taproot Magazine rainbow hummus recipe for the potluck following our children's sunday school program (and so much more)... 

And December has been full of gift making.  I have finished projects for both of my nieces (a mermouse to go with Phoebe's Birthday, and a Maggie Rabbit), a Henry's Hat to go with that book for my nephew, cloth napkins for my sister, earrings for a friend, a cowl for another friend, with a little testing of my new loom in between all of those projects.  

We have a small tree this year, that we chose from a local tree farm.  My favorite part of having a tree is seeing the collection of ornaments for each of my kids.  My mother-in-law makes one for each of them every year, and I make an ornament with their photo on it every year.  These years, just like this month, are passing by so quickly...I wish I could slow time.

I apologize to any of you who follow our farm account on instagram.  I have barely used my camera the whole month of November, so most of these photos were taken with my ipod and many, if not all of them, were shared on instagram already.

The month of November was so full... so full that I didn't think of grabbing my camera.  I can hardly keep up with the daily tasks of cooking and laundry, it seems, so I didn't think of posting on the blog.

The frosty days of early November (seen on the lovely autumn blueberry leaves) brought the kids and me inside most of the time.  It felt like a big deal to go out and dig the last row of carrots.  It's so funny how without realizing it, we go from such full days outside to full days inside that even harvesting seems out of routine when just a month earlier we had farmers' markets.

Being inside more means I am crafting a lot!  I finished F's Tiny Tea Leaves sweater and made myself, not one, but two Fen dresses!  I am so happy with how they turned out.  I had picked up some beautiful fabric and the pattern on my birthday weekend away in Portland, Maine.

Adam finished splitting the slab wood for sugaring seasoning, just in time for snow.

I helped a dear friend for a day cutting balsam for wreaths.  We only got through 8 of her 50 balsam bunches--wreath-making is no joke!

The kids got one good sledding afternoon in before the weather warmed again.

We spent Thanksgiving day with Adam's family (and got to snuggle up our baby niece the whole time).  And came back to the largest market I do with crafts--two full days of selling hand-made goods with several of my closest friends.  It was a great market this year!

In any of the spare moments I have, I'm trying to work on the gifts I plan to make for family and friends.  Looks like it will be a very full December, too.
