keep calm, craft on

Joining Nicole this week for keep calm, craft on!  I've been on a knitting kick again!

I knitted this up in a couple of days last week and started the sweater that I posted a link to last week.

I love how this turned out.  I may knit up a larger size as well for our little one coming this winter.

our favorite pickles

We *sort-of* use the Nourishing Traditions recipe...

only this year we made them very simple.

Just 1 Tbs sea salt per quart filled with "filtered" water (although I haven't always followed that)

and lots of homegrown dill in each quart.  And, of course, many scrubbed/washed whole cucumbers.

We'll let them sit on the counter for 3...or 5....or 7 days (depending on how fermenting is going) before moving them to the fridge.

We love lacto-fermented cukes!

I finally finished the bag that I started here... And have some special friends modeling it for me! 

Nothing new going on yet, but wanted to join Nicole this week and show the finished bag.

That was our weekend.

It was good.

It was very full.

Full of friends from far, swimming, picnics, bonfires and lots of kiddos!

seven things

Both Kim and Tonya shared what they are grateful for today, so I thought I'd join in...

~rain.  very thankful we've had showers off and on over the past few days.

~our garden.  we've been enjoying all homegrown meals many nights this past week.

~slow mornings.  the pace seems to have slowed this week for us, and the boys and i are 

enjoying a slow morning today.

~family.  my sister-in-law and nephew travel to michigan today.  and we'll be joining them 

in a few weeks. 

~my washer.  i'm so thankful for my washing machine on these sandy swimming lesson days!

~flowers.  i can't get enough!  i love the rainbow of colors blooming outside.

~little blessings.  we will be welcoming a new little one into our family in january,

and we are so very excited!

around the farm

more to bring to market each week,

sprinklers to cool us on these hot days,

the jungle surrounding our house,

milk weed (lots of it) and so very  many butterflies!

and baskets of goodies for summer meals.

Joining Nicole this week with a little crafting in the kitchen.  We finally bought an ice cream maker 

and I've been experimenting with mint chocolate chip (our favorite) using our raw milk and cream!  Yum!  

The boys bought a flower press at the farmers' market and we've been busy pressing flowers for some winter crafting projects.

We had a storm on the 4th.  The combination of dusk and the clouds rolling in made the 

most beautiful colors.

Lightning lit the clouds long after the storm had past.
